The Beauty of Local Art Shows |
|
|
Art shows always seem to appear around our home every spring. Several
nearby small towns close off some of their streets or set up parks for
the day to hold the art shows.
I can often observe people who live
several miles away, wandering around and admiring the artwork. Large
amounts of money change hands when a work of art is purchased and
artists compare their works with others during these shows.
My father used to insist that I should have some culture in my life when I was growing up. I didn't like being dragged to art shows back then, but I’ve leaned to love them. Dad used to take me to the art shows and carry me around while telling me about the paintings and creations. However, I always wished that I was at home watching cartoons during those visits.
Anyway, I'm now one of those people who will drive for miles and miles just to appreciate the works of art that are displayed on art shows. I don't always go to purchase masterpieces since I don’t have a lot of extra cash.
However, I am grateful for my father’s efforts to convince me to have culture in my life. I love theater and opera but most of them are too far and expensive. On the other hand, art shows are often free, enjoyable and educational.
I often take my son to art shows to let him view the artists that paint in front of an audience and some of the artists that create pottery while people watch and admire. Since I insist that my son accompany me, he is learning to appreciate art. I always reward him with something special afterwards, perhaps lunch or dinner at his favorite themed restaurant.
He has taken to these shows fairly well and absolutely loves it when my father joins us. My father always takes the time to explain the importance of art to my son, just as he did to me when I was younger. I always smile as I walk behind them while they look admiringly at all those wonderful works of art.
